Italo High-Speed Trains: Protecting the Wash Platforms

2012 - concrete platforms under constant water and detergent attack

Train washing platforms are a brutal environment for concrete. Every day they are soaked with water and detergents, and over the years that chemical load corrodes the cement matrix irreversibly - eventually forcing expensive repairs.

For the wash platforms serving Italo's high-speed fleet, contractor Colas chose Evercrete Vetrofluid. The treatment saturates the concrete's porosity so that water and cleaning agents can no longer migrate into the matrix, preventing absorption, moisture damage and surface delamination.

  • Location: Italy (2012)
  • Contractor: Colas
  • Ecobeton solution: Waterproofing treatment with Evercrete Vetrofluid

What this means for UK projects

Depots, wash bays and plant rooms across the UK rail network face identical conditions. Protecting the concrete itself extends maintenance intervals without adding a coating that traffic will wear away. See Evercrete Vetrofluid.
